Trying to stay on the wagon.........

School and work have made it extremely difficult to stay on my exercise regime. Throw on top of that our home construction and its been a month since i ran. This was a quick one for Monika and i...... or should i say short one..... trying to make it back in the gym since its getting cold now and our basement isn't finished.....

New path

Monika and i had to start with some early morning errands and do some work so we did a late morning run this morning (this is supposedly a day off for us......).

Anyway, found a new route that i like. The GPS didn't start logging until we were about .25 miles into the run for some reason...... i guess it doesn't log until it has a 3D lock.... kinda weird... i'll have to check the settings. Anyway, was just a standard 5k run..

Monday the 13th!

I missed all last week due to work, but this week i'm trying to keep it going. Monika and i went for a quick 3 mile run tonight. I should be able to get in a run tomorrow and wednesday as well. Though i missed running last week, i needed the rest and tonights run felt pretty good.

Still on Track

I was pleased to weigh in this morning and see that the scale was still showing 195! After being on the road for almost a month straight, its been a challenge! I am looking forward to being home for the next 3 months (fingers crossed!) with no travel. I have a really busy week this week, but it should start getting back to a managable level after that.

GREAT to be home!

Was a good run this morning. It was a bit chilly - looks like its time to break out the sweaters, but otherwise it was a FANTASTIC run! As you can see from the track, it took my GPS a bit of time to lock in where i was. Apparently the jet lag was affecting it more than me, although i wouldn't be very good at doing complex mathematical calculations at 5:30 in the morning either :-)

Really enjoyed the run and had a good pace this morning. Preliminary weigh in for this week looks like i did well. Even though i didn't lose any weight, it looks like i maintained at the very least which is tough when you're traveling and having business dinners every night - especially in Europe :-)

A walk around Paris

I am still getting over a cold, so i did not get up and run this morning, which i was really looking forward to. My colleague and i did get out for the afternoon though and walk around Paris. I forgot my GPS logger, so i had to plot it by hand. We walked for about 5 hours and covered 7.24 miles! We walked from our hotel to the Eiffel Tower, then over to the Louvre and back to the Eiffel Tower. We took a taxi back from the Eiffel Tower to the hotel because it was getting late and we were hungry!

Run through the France Countryside

Thanks to Google Earth, i found a nice running trail right near my hotel! It was a combination run/walk. I stopped mid way around and took pictures and enjoyed the scenery a bit, then when i got back into town, i wandered through a few stores. I was unfortunately looking for a pharmacy as i'm coming down with a cold :-(

195 Milestone Reached!

It has taken me 6 weeks to get back on track, but things are progressing well. I hit 195 pounds this week and am determined to make it to 190 by the end of October! I also started keeping track of how far i've run as well as how much time. From August until now i've logged 54 miles!
Should only take me another 50 miles to get to 190! We will see if that holds true.

I'll wake the roosters up.......

There is something just fundamentally wrong when you wake up at 4:30 in the morning and decide you only have enough time to run 2 miles....... at least i'm staying on track with exercising.... i'll have to get the sleep thing worked out after this semester!

Tough climb back on......

Well, i wish i could say i was off running at another exotic location last week, but unfortunately i wasn't. I was in Hamburg, Germany on business, and although i took my running gear (and was looking forward to running), i was so swamped with work and school that i didn't get to. I barely got any sleep, much less time to run.

The good news is that i maintained my weight. Weighed in at 197 today and still managed to get in a 4 mile run, though as you can see from the speed view, i slowed down significantly at the end.

Finally Making Progress

This past week was a brutal one at work and with school, so i did not get to run at all. The good news, is that it looks like i have my diet and exercise going at the right balance. I have finally started to see my weight start the downturn with 3 pounds lost this week - down to 197. If i can maintain my diet and squeeze in as much exercise as i can over the next few weeks, i could be under the 195 mark by the end of September and maybe even getting close to that elusive 190 target i've been wanting to hit for the past couple of years!

Anyway, Monika and i did manage to catch up on a little bit of sleep last night and took a quick run this morning before having to hit the books again.....

Back to the streets of Atlanta

Today was my first morning back in Atlanta and the good news is i didn't gain any weight on my vacation - the bad news is i didn't lose any either. Weighed in right at 200 today, so i won't complain as i ate like a horse all week! Was a good 3.8 mile run this morning at a decent pace to get me back into it.

A week on the beach!

You may have thought i quit exercising for the week, but Monika and i were actually hiding away in the Carribean! That didn't stop us from exercising though - and thank goodness we did. We were in Punta Canna in the Dominican Republic.

We had a great time and ate too much, but thanks to the early morning run every day we didn't gain any weight! I could definitely handle getting up and running on the beach every day! It was beautiful; hot, but very beautiful. We ran 15 miles over the course of the week. Pics and details below as always!

Be sure to check out the birds eye view that will give you a feel for our runs on the beach!

First run on 6 mile course

Wow, today was a tough one. I ran my full 6 mile course today and it was the first time i realized that the longest leg (peachtree dunwoody road) is uphill all the way! That made for a brutal last 2 miles. It was a good run though and i will keep it as my Wednesday run to see if i can get it to under 45 mins which is a 7.5 mph pace all the way through.

Evening catch up

I was up late working on a final exam Sunday night, so i overslept this morning. Made it up with a nice 3.6m run this evening. I weighed in at 199 this weekend, so actually 2 pounds up from last week. This was pretty predictable - usually the first week or two i drop quiet a few pounds and then pick a few back up as the muscle rebuilds. I'll likely plato for another week or two at most and then the pounds should start dropping off.... that's my excuse and i'm stickin to it ;-)

Nice 5k with Monika

We both slept in a bit this morning and just took a casual 5k run together today. Was overcast and nice outside.

Must've been that left turn at Albuquerque

Or should i say lack there of! Today was supposed to be my first 4 mile run, but due to me missing a turn i ended up with a 5 mile run! I like this course, though next time i'll do a better job of reading the map before i start out!

Good Start to the Week and a Fox!

This morning was a great run! To start the week off, i lost 3 pounds last week, so i'm down to 197! Though we are still early in August, this morning was a nice cool run... looking forward to fall this year.

As an added bonus, i finally saw our neighborhood Fox. As i was rounding the final leg, he darted across the street about 100 yards ahead of me, right under a street light, so i got a nice view of him as he darted across the street!

Week of August 3, 2008

Ok, here goes my first week. I will just post progress at the end of the week.
This week was the first week with my new GPS so i can track my route. This new GPS is amazing - i just set it to a higher resolution today (will take affect next run), but even with today's run, you can actually see which side of the road i'm running on!

Anyway - total for this week is 5.9 miles. Today's route is my new "5k butt kicker" - very hilly!

A new blog to put on some peer pressure :-)

Ok, I now have a new blog set up to track my exercise and..... weight loss! 10 Years of work, school, and travel have left me needing some exercise and weight loss - that's about as PC as I can put it :-)

So here we go! I've already lost 20 pounds over the past 18 months, now its time to drop the last 15 to get me back in shape.

So here it is world - i'm at 200 right now and my goal is 185!

Wish me luck and off we go!
